Billy McKee - A life dedicated to Ireland (Pictures)

The great Republican leader Billy McKee has sadly died today.

 He lived a long life and was known and loved by many.

 Do not be sad that Billy has died, he lived to the ripe old age of 97, be glad that he ever lived and has left for us a wonderful legacy that will continue to inspire Republicans for generations to come. 

 There are many people, more qualified than me to write his history, I could not possibly do it justice, so please enjoy below a number of wonderful Photographs, provided by Jim McIlmurray (Lurgan)

    RIP to a dedicated lifelong Republican. Its through men like Billy who never wavered in their support of the Republican cause that we have today fine Republicans like yourself Cait. We owe them a debt we can never properly repay.

We stood up and won, DO NOT sit back down!

It should come as no shock to Republicans that the Fine Gael led Free State Government intended on commemorating the RIC, which comprised the black and tans. The announcement today that this has now been ‘deferred’ has been met with great enthusiasm and indeed a sense of victory from the people. The opposition to this commemoration came in thick and fast and from some surprising quarters, today is the first time I can say that I have seen social media have a tangible positive effect on politics. Largely led by the ordinary person on social media platforms, the protests against this commemoration could not be ignored and so it was announced that it was ‘deferred’. I believe the word ‘deferred’ was used decisively by the State to try and save face, but as far as everyone else is concerned, this event is cancelled. McGuinness was not part of my movement

Since the death of Martin McGuinness on Tuesday my Facebook newsfeed has hardly been without a picture of him for a minute, many of these pictures are intended to be glowing tributes and show him looking like a great statesman or a young radical Republican, many more are pictures of him shaking hands with the British Queen or standing outside the steps of Stormont with Hugh Orde the RUC Chief as McGuinness notoriously proclaimed Republicans to be “Traitors to the Island of Ireland” It has been a few days now of the same thing repeated ad nauseam about this man, and a few days of high emotions in Republican circles as differing accounts of who and what Martin McGuinness was come to the surface.
